what have you been up to?

What a busy few months: friends and family getting degrees, getting engaged, having babies, having second babies, raising babies to be cool little people, buying houses, getting new pets, getting new jobs, getting fresh air. So much news around me!

For my part, I have been “butt-in-chair” as they say, on my work in progress, trying to reach a self-imposed and self-enforced deadline of March 1 for my first draft. And then I’ll be free! Just kidding, I’ll be back in the chair doing edits forever.

I made these things instead (2016 edition).

With the end of one year and the start of another comes the season of recaps and resolutions. For my part, I did make a little headway on my novel in 2016 – I took a workshop, got into an intensive, and, after initially failing at writing group, helped form a new one with some GrubStreet classmates. I even got a dozen blog posts up, and a few people actually read them. LOOK AT ME GO!

GrubStreet or bust.

Sarcasm and Snark are the peanut butter and jelly that gum together this blog. And also my life. But let’s get (sort of) serious for a second. I actually did something productive for my writing this summer: I took my first workshop at GrubStreet.

For a while after the class ended, I was so high on the thrill of positive momentum that on two occasions in one weekend I blurted out to a couple creative acquaintances of mine that I’m working on a book, and I didn’t (immediately) shame spiral.
