Is there anything more instantly jubilant than the pop of a champagne cork? It has been the soundtrack to many special moments in my life – graduations and milestone birthdays, family holidays and wedding events. (And, ok, fine, also just Wednesdays. Sometimes a little mid-week bubbly is a must.)
And finishing the first draft of my novel.
What a busy few months: friends and family getting degrees, getting engaged, having babies, having second babies, raising babies to be cool little people, buying houses, getting new pets, getting new jobs, getting fresh air. So much news around me!
For my part, I have been “butt-in-chair” as they say, on my work in progress, trying to reach a self-imposed and self-enforced deadline of March 1 for my first draft. And then I’ll be free! Just kidding, I’ll be back in the chair doing edits forever.
I have been working on this book in some form or another for one hell of a long time. And I am only really now starting to be able to see myself completing it. (Probably. For the most part. Pretty much definitely.)
